Wrath Progress…

Since Wrath’s launch last Thursday both Joanne and I have been levelling our mains to 80, currently they (Krugash and Angelikuh) are level 74 and questing in the Dragonblight. We entered Northrend via Borean Tundra, completing all the quests there before moving onto Howling Fjord.

Both start zones have been quite fun, both have had their share of unique and interesting quests. They also both have gorgeous visuals with suitably cold feeling vistas.

After finishing the two start zones we’ve moved onto the Dragonblight, the first totally snowy and icy zone in Northrend. We’ve done the quests from the first quest hub, a hospitable place called Venomspite where we both dinged level 74 and promptly toddled off to Dalaran (which has recently flown from Alterac Mountains to it’s new home floating menacingly above the Crystalsong Forest) to buy a rather cute bear mount with evil, glowy eyes…

Next we have to finish the quests in Dragonblight and then move on to the slightly warmer climes of Grizzly Hills.

From there it’s onto Zul’Drak and Sholazar Basin where we’ll hopefully ding 80 leaving The Storm Peaks and Icecrown free to earn money from quests.

So far Wrath of the Lich King has been a totally pleasurable experience, the quests have been fun and the areas have been a joy to navigate. In fact, I can’t actually at this point think of anything negative to say about it!

It’s been really enjoyable playing through the expansion with everything being fresh, with no-one (barring those who were in the beta) really knowing all that much.

Oh, and I have an addon post in the works for the weekend… hopefully I can get back on track with posts…

World of Warcraft Levelling Guides

The loveable and quirky Praeludiah asked me about levelling guides earlier so I thought I’d give my thoughts on most of the popular ones and the alternatives available. This entry is pretty long, so have a coffee ready and enjoy. Hopefully it’ll be informative and useful.

First of all let me quickly just state the obvious, levelling guides essentially step you through the questing process, telling you which quests to take, which to leave, where to go etc. They also generally require you to buy them for often ridiculous sums of money.

Are they worth it? In my opinion no, not at all. Let me cover each of the “popular” pay guides first, I’ll cover alternatives after. (I’m not including links to the various pay guide sites as I’m not willing to be held responsible for anything “nasty” you could potentially get from them. Level 67, finally!

After 17 days of game time, I’ve finally dinged 67 on my Mage, Ryliana, today. Getting to the mid-60’s hasn’t been too hard since entering Outland but my progress has really slowed.

So much so that I’m preferring playing on my alts even though I’m close to reaching the mystical level 70. The main reason for my lack of enthusiasm for Ryliana right now is that quests are giving me around 1.5% total experience and each kill is giving me around 0.1%. Which when I say it here doesn’t seem too bad, 1000 kills or 66 quests, but it just seems like the grind is such hard work.

Ryliana WILL get there, just as I’m sure my alts will too, although Rothlar (my original main character, a dwarven priest) is sitting at level 47, my new night elf druid alt, Mistralfen, is currently at 33, with a few others around the level 10 mark.

I’m just finding the mid-60’s to 70 grind a bit gruelling with my mage at the moment.
