More Kara!

July 24th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Gaming, wow

Maiden, Dead AgainSo, on the 22nd we visited Karazhan again and finally downed the Shade of Aran and completed the Chess Event. We managed Shade on the 2nd attempt thankfully. We one-shotted the Chess Event which was fun!

Last night Kara reset so we entered again, this time getting upto the Opera Event (which was the Little Red Riding Hood sequence) in one sitting. So I feel like we are making progress. We return to Karazhan on Sunday night where hopefully we’ll down Curator, Shade of Aran and the Chess Event.

At the moment I think that is as far as we can go due to group make-up and gear. But if we can consistently do that it’ll be great for now to help folks gear up with badges and Kara loot.

2nd Visit to Kara…

July 21st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Gaming, wow

So we returned to Kara last night and we managed to down the next two bosses. For the Opera Event we got the Wizard of Oz, so sent Dorothee, Tito, Roar, Strawman, Tinhead and The Crone to meet their maker.

After that we made our way through to The Curator, after a couple of attempts taking him down too.

We then made our way through some annoying Trash Mobs to the Shade of Aran. Even though the fight is relatively straightforward (once you know what to do at least) we couldn’t quite down him.

Hopefully we’ll do that when we return to Kara, which should hopefully be Tuesday night.

Torres in Karazhan?

July 17th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Gaming, wow

Torres_MoV_KaraSo, tonight I finally got to see the inside of Karazhan, the entry-level 10-man raid instance and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Both myself and Joanne were drafted in to tonight’s Kara raid and to be honest we both didn’t know what to expect, especially because we weren’t sure how well our gear stacked up and we weren’t sure how hard it was going to be.

Moroes_KaraOur guildies were great and very supportive, explaining anything we needed to know at each of the bosses we fought. In tonight’s session we managed to reach and down Fernando Torres… I mean the Maiden of Virtue after a couple of attempts, taking down Attumen and Moroes on the way.

As a bonus I got a couple of pieces of gear, the [Gloves of Dexterous Manipulation] and [Moroes' Lucky Pocket Watch] along with 5 [Badge of Justice].

For our first foray into the ancient tower of Karazhan I was impressed with how well we did. I even off-tanked a little bit which I’m really happy with… Hopefully we’ll get to continue through tomorrow.

The Road to Karazhan …

July 5th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Gaming, wow

… is fraught with drama, where even the smallest guild seems to suddenly have ego problems sprout overnight.

I am in a small guild, it originally had around 30 characters in the guild with about a third of those being alts. Some of the members had never been online but the regular members were nice and friendly and would gladly help you out. We generally did a 5-man a day and all was good.

Now, none of us are particularly well geared (with the exception of two officers in the guild) as we are still collecting bits and pieces from normal 5-mans and stocking up on our “welfare” Season 2 epics. This is important, going into heroics with greens and the odd blue is just asking for trouble. (Even mostly blues and the odd purple could be a problem depending on how exactly you are geared.)

The guild leader changed the message of the day to one inferring we should focus on getting geared up for heroics, which is great because that’s exactly what we should be doing.

This soon changed, today I logged on to be greeted by “<guild name> will soon be raiding, get DeadlyBossMods, Omen and GuildCalendar from curse.com”. (as a sidenote, there is no addon called GuildCalendar, they meant the excellent GroupCalendar, all these addons will be covered in a future Addon Corner btw ;))

Raiding? We haven’t even successfully completed a Heroic yet, how the hell can we be raiding???

I was out at a barbecue last night but Joanne was convinced to try a Heroic Ramparts run, it was a disaster. 3 hours total and still no clear.

If we are too undergeared to successfully clear normal 5-mans without incident, let alone a heroic, how can the guild leader seriously expect us to do Kara?

Also, the “friendly” nature of the guild seems to have vanished over the last few days, our member count has jumped to 50, and while that should be a good thing as most of the new blood is already level 70 with some very nice gear, there seems to be a lot of e-peen stroking and bravado.

We shall see how things progress but I’m not very optimistic about the guild’s future.

Life after 70

February 20th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in wow

Twiggers_LifeAfter70 You’d think that after hitting max level there wouldn’t be much left to occupy yourself with. You’d be wrong, dead wrong.

Twiggers dinged level 70 about 5 days ago now, and there is still so much for her to do.

As soon as we hit 70 both Olyk and Twiggers have been participating in PvP Battlegrounds to earn honour for our Season 1 Arena PvP set, also referred to as “Welfare Epics”. This is our main priority as gear is everything and even though the itemisation on the sets is predominantly PvP they make a pretty good starter PvE set too if we want to start raiding. After we have our S1 set we’ll start doing 2v2 Arena as well for at least 10 games a week.

We also started doing whatever dailies we can, at the moment that just consists of the 2 Skettis dailies for the Sha’tari Skyguard, the Honor Hold Daily PvP Quest and the Daily Battlegroup PvP Quest.

Once we have our gear we’ll be focussing on obtaining the 5,000 gold needed for our epic mount and then proceed to do various reputation grinds. After that, we’ll do our Karazhan attunement (we are both upto where we need to find a group for our first key fragment), and then see if we can cope with raiding.

So… we are busy and have LOTS to occupy us. Somewhere in there an alt will probably be getting levelled as well…

To sum up my plan…

  • Step One. Obtain Season 1 Arena Gear…
  • Step Two. Obtain 5,000g for Epic Flying Mount…
  • Step Three. Grind Reputation…
  • Step Four. Get Keyed…
  • Step Five. Do Stuff!!!
